Abstract
Pterygium is one of the common ocular surface disorder. It is a
fibrovascular subepithelial degenerative bulbar conjunctival tissue over the
limbus into cornea. It is typically seen in people living in hot climates and
with more exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Medical therapy is mostly
ineffective in these cases and surgical treatment is advised. Simple excision
which is also known as bare sclera technique is available but it is associated
with high recurrence rates. Other modalities includes pterygium excision
combined with conjunctival autograft, adjunctive treatments with mitomycinC or
beta radiation.
